| Nathaniel Ellis Pickering Minerva Hassletine Griffin 64th wedding aniversary |
| Newspaper article: Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel E. Pickering, prominent pioneer citizens of Pontotoc county, on last Friday selebrated their 64st wedding anniversay at their home in the Woodland community. Mr. Pickering, who is now, 84 years of age, was born on March 8, 1854 in Greene county, Tenn., and came to Pontotoc county in March 1873. Mrs. Pickering, who is 83, was formerly Miss Minerva Haseltine Griffin, was born and reared in the Fifth District, Pontotoc county. Mr. and Mrs. Pickering were married on September 9, 1874 and are the parents of nine children as follows: Mrs. M.L. Perry, Shannon; Mrs. O.C. Rackley, Pontotoc; John Edward Pickering, Tupelo; Lee Dolpus Pickering, Truman, Ark.; Mrs. Clovis Gann, Shannon; Mrs. Lee Jackson, Pontotoc; Mrs. C.L. Hardin, Pontotoc; Lloyd Ernest Pickering, Pontotoc; and Erskine M. Pickering, Springville. They have the distinction of having sixty-five grandchildren and thirty-two great grandchildren. Both are happy, although not very strong, and it affords them much pleasure to talk to their many friends who call to see them. They are proud of the fact that their marriage has continued uninterrupted for sixty-four years. Very few couples are priviledged to travel life's pathway together that long. |
