Generation One

1 William DeWitt¹ Mitchell born in Ireland?; married "Miss Roseberry". They had three known sons and possibly as many as ten chilren. The three known sons fought in the Revolution. After the war, two of the sons, William and John, moved to Old 96 District of South Carolina with a short stay in Livingston, Ky. By 1777 they were living in Laurens Co. S.C. Thomas joined them in Laurens, but did not stay long and moved south to Georgia.: 11 Thomas² Mitchell born about 1745; married Mary Barnett; 12 William² Mitchell born 1751 in Prince George, Virginia;; 13 John² Mitchell born about 1754; married Mary ?; 13 John² Mitchell had a son named David³ who in turn had a son named John⁴ who married 1246 Emma⁴ Mitchell the daughter of 124 Allen³ Mitchell (William², William DeWitt¹ ).

Generation Two

12 William² Mitchell (William Dewitt¹ ) born 1751 in Prince George, Virginia; died 1821 in Laurens, South Carolina and is buried at Mt. Bethel Cemetery, Laurens, South Carolina. The children of William Mitchell are cleary established in the Will of his daughter, Susanna Mitchell Mattison. Her Will names all of her brothers and sister, and the list includes my Allen Mitchell. Here are portions of the Will of Susanna Mitchell Mattison filed in Abbeville Courthouse, South Carolina, 1831:

.... all my just debts to be paid out of my Estate, by William Pyles & William Barmore whom I appoint and wish for them to act as my Execcutors. 2nd. My will and desire is for the whole of my Estate to be sold by my Executors. 3rd. I will and bequeath unto my Brother William Mitchell Five Dollars only, Because his needs does not require more. 4th. The Balance of my Estate, I wish to be Equally divided between the rest of my Brothers & Sisters. Namely John Mitchell, Allen Mitchell, Macklin Mitchell, Asa Mitchell, Reuben Mitchell, James Mitchell, Elizabeth Mitchell, & Patcy Box. And as my Brothers Allen, John, Asa, & James are dead, my wish and desire is, that their Equal distribution share be Equally divided amongst the Lawful heirs of such Deceased respectively .... .... In witness whereof I have here unto Set my hand and seal the 15 day of April one thousand Eight Hundred & Thirty one. It is obvious from her Will that four of her brothers had died prior to 1831 (the date the Will was written) and that her sister "Patcy" was married to a Mr. "Box". Another thing that might be suggested is that her brother William was doing well enough financially, that she deamed it unnecessary to leave him anything other than five dollars. And finally, either she did not have any living children or she simply did not want to leave them anything since no children were named. Generation Three

124 Allen³ Mitchell (William², William Dewitt¹ )born about 1774 in Laurens, South Carolina; died 1814 in Laurens County, South Carolina; married about 1792 in Laurens County, South Carolina to Drucilla -----. The below children were named in a quit claim deed for 100 acres of land in South Carolina, by Drucilla Pringle to her children, dated October 2, 1828, and filed in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. This 100 acre tract had been purchased by Allen Mitchell in 1794 (the land was sold by the Mitchell children, June 3, 1833). When Allen Mitchell died in 1814, his wife Drucilla was named in probate records. Drucilla subsequently married John Pringle, who died in Laurens County, South Carolina in 1820. Drucilla after arriving in Alabama married third John Nabors. Willis Mitchell and his sister Emma were in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama by December 1827 (marriage records). Except for Swepston, who was still in South Carolina (1830 census), Mr John E. Arnold believes that Durcilla and the rest of the family were probably all in Alabama by 1827. Banister was in Fayette County, Alabama by 1830 (census), and Willis was in Pickens County (1830 census). Swepston was in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama by 1834, when he and his brother-in-law, John Mitchell, acquired land there (Tuscaloosa County, Alabama land records). No information has been found on Lenny or Edny. Some information from the Gandrud records of Ala., SC genealogical records 1964 and Allen's Will of 1814 via Marian Mitchell Jones.

1242 Swepston⁴ Mitchell (Allen³, William², William DeWitt¹ ) born November 27, 1795; died before 1860; married first in 1818 to Jincy Clarke married second about 1843 probably in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama to Martha Malone who was born about 1823 in South Carolina and died before 1880 in Mississippi. In the 1880 census Martha Jane, the youngest sister, was listed in the household of her brother, Jesse E. Mitchell. In the 1870 census for Calhoun County, Mississippi, two additional children that are unidentified, namely, Samuel Mitchell, age 12, and Wesley Mitchell, age 10, were listed in the household of Martha Mitchell, along with her own children, Elias, Willis, and Jane. (Note: These two children, Samuel and Wesley, could have been Martha's children if the ages given on the census are correct, however, "Jane" was listed as older than them and being born in 1856 but was actually born 1859.) The following information is based primarily on census records, plus limited information from family sources, IGI data, LDS source documents, etc. Swepston was married in South Carolina before 1820 (census records), and a Tuscaloosa County, Alabama deed in December of 1836 was signed jointly by his wife Jincy. There were as many as 10 children from this marriage, 6 male, 4 female (census records - Could the other males include Harvey, Lenny or Berry? See 1850 Pickens County, Southern District, Alabama census for Lenny and Berry and 1870 Mississippi, Calhoun census for Harvey.) Jincy probably died sometime after the 1840 census, and Swepston remarried (Martha Malone, born about 1823 in South Carolina) by 1843. It is thought that Swepston died in Calhoun County, Mississippi about 1859. The Swepston Mitchell family came to Calhoun County, Mississippi from Alabama in the mid-to-late 1850's, but Swepston apparently died before the 1860 census, which listed only Martha and the eight children. This family has not been located in the Alabama 1850 census. The first three children listed are by first wife Jincy Clark and the last eight are by second wife Martha Malone.: 12421 Allen⁵ Mitchell born about 1829 in South Carolina

12424 William Calhoun⁵ Mitchell (Swepston⁴, Allen³, William², William DeWitt¹ ) born February 20, 1844 in Alabama; married Sarah Dupina Moore who was born about December 15, 1844 in Mississippi, the daughter of Preston P. Moore and died August 9, 1929. On the 1870 Calhoun County, Mississippi census William and Sarah were listed as receiving their mail at Benela. On October 20, 1902, William C. began his move to Oklahoma Indian Territory, where his daugther, Margaret Texanna Mitchell (Easley) and her husband, Frank, had move some time (months?) earlier. He reached his destination of McAlester, Oklahoma on November 20, 1902, although three days of this time was spent at his father-in-law's (Preston P. Moore). He wrote many letters to the editor of The Monitor Herald, which were published weekly to inform people of Calhoun County as to his and his family's health, etc. Below is a list of the children of William Calhoun Mitchell and Sarah D. 12425 Reuben Polk⁵ Mitchell (Swepston⁴, Allen³, William², William DeWitt¹ ) born August 13, 1845 in Alabama, the son of 1242 Swepston and Martha (Malone) Mitchell; died January 15, 1918; buried Old Gauley Cemetery, Calhoun County, Mississippi; married Sarah Frances Stribling who was born 1855, the daughter of Benjamin Harrison Stribling and died 1935 and also buried Old Gauley Cemetery. 12426 Jesse Edmonson⁵ Mitchell (Swepston⁴, Allen³, William², William DeWitt¹ ) born December 22, 1846 in Alabama; died September 25, 1914 in Calhoun County, Mississippi (New Liberty voting precinct); married Fannie Whittle who was born January 1852, the daughter of John D. and Eliza Whitle and died before 1920. 1242B Martha Janie⁵ Mitchell (Swepston⁴, Allen³, William², William DeWitt¹ ) born February 1859 in Mississippi; died November 1908 in Calhoun County, Mississippi; married August 5, 1880 to Newton Thomas Easley (See Easley ) who was born November 24, 1859 and died in 1938. They lived in Calhoun County, until Martha Janie died. Newton remarried twice after the death of Martha Janie and lived in various parts of the state. John Willis and Lula moved to Tunica County, Mississippi in about 1926. Maybelle moved with her three chilren and her father to Oklahoma in about 1914-1915 after the death of her husband, Levi Harrison Benning. Maybelle and Levi Harrison had three children:
