There is a strong possibility that my Easley family are descendants of Robert Easley who was born ca1650 and died March 9, 1711/12 and married Ann Parker. Robert who probably was a Quaker likely came to America from Norwich in Norfolk Co, England. A positive link has yet to be made.

John Easley born before 1774 probably in South Carolina, died before 1850 probably in Lawrence County, Alabama, is thought to be the father of as many as ten chilren. He is thought to be, but not proven, the son of John Easley, born between 1738 and 1741 and Ann Gowen. In the 1790 census, Ann (Gowen) Easley had one male over 16 in her household. John (b. bef 1774) married about 1800 to Nancy (?) who was born about 1783 in South Carolina. Many have speculated that Nancy's surname was 'Hightower'. This is purely speculation as no documentation has been found to prove or disprove these thoughts.

Following are some quotes from Dr. Virginia Easley DeMarce, the foremost expert on Easley genealogy:
"A John Easley subsequently appears in the documents closely associated
with Ann (Gowen) Easley, but is not fully documented as a son of John
 and Ann (Gowen) Easley.

I believe that this son may well be the John Easley who appears as of
the 1820 census in Lawrence County, Alabama. However, I have no full
documentary proof of the connection. If it is the right filiation, we
do not know where this family was between 1801 and 1818."
Tennessee Valley Genealogical Society, Inc., 1820 State Census of Lawrence County, Alabama, A Special Edition of Valley Leaves, A Quarterly Publication. Huntsville, AL, P.O. Box 1512, 35807, September 1977 shows the following:
p.19 Elizabeth Plant, 1 wm over 21, 2 wm under 21, 1 wf
     Isaac Plant, 1 wm over 21, 2 wm under 21, 1 wf over 21, 2 wf under 21
Daniel Easely, 1 wm over 21, 1 wf over 21
p.20 John Easely, 1 wm over 21, 4 wm under 21, 1 wf over 21, 2 wf under 21
Millinton Easely, 1 wm under 21, 1 wf under 21
Mayberry Plant, 1 wm over 21, 1 wf under 21"
The children of John Easley and wife Nancy are thought to be the following:
1 Daniel Easley born before 1800; married Elizabeth Plant in Lawrence County, Alabama on October 13, 1819.
2 Millington Easley born about 1801 in North Carolina; married Nancy Plant in Lawrence County, Alabama on August 28, 1818.
3 Lucy Easley born before 1804; married James H. Owens in Lawrence County, Alabama on December 2, 1818.
4 Sally Easley born before 1805; married Mayberry Plant in Lawrence County, Alabama on October 2, 1819.
5 Richard Hightower Easley born between 1805 - 1810 in Alabama or Tennessee
6 John Osborn Easley born between 1810 - 1814 in Hickman County, Tennessee
7 Daughter Easley born between 1800 - 1820
8 Daughter Easley born between 1800 - 1820
9 Son Easley born between 1800 - 1820
A Son Easley born between 1800 - 1820

2 Millington Easley born ca1801 in NC; married August 28, 1818 in Lawrence Co, AL to Nancy Plant who was born in South Carolina. There were several Easley-Plant marriages in Lawrence County just before 1820.
Millington Easley to Nancy Plant Aug 28, 1818
James H. Owens to Lucy Easley Dec 02, 1818
Maberry Plant to Sally Beasley Oct 02, 1819
(note: Also another listing has her as Sally EASLEY)
(note: Millington named a son John Mayberry Easley)
Daniel Easley to Elizabeth Plant Oct 13, 1819
It is thought, but not proven, that the above Easleys were the children of John Easley (and wife Nancy ?), who was listed on the 1820 Lawrence County, AL Census along with Millington and Daniel Easley. This John Easley is thought to be, but again not proven, the son of John Easley and Ann Gowen. Here is the data for the 1820 Lawrence County, Alabama Census.

I have not found Millington in 1830 but he and his family were in Chickasaw County, Mississippi by the 1840 census. Then on February 27, 1841 he patented two parcels of land in Chickasaw (Yalobusha?) County the first listed as NE-1/4 of SE-1/4 of Section 8 Township 22N Range 8E 40.04 acres, the second listed as SE-1/4 of NE-1/4 of Section 8 Township 22N Range 8E 40.04 acres. These two parcels of land were located just northwest of the present day community of Sabougla. On November 30, 1848 a Nancy Easley patented land in Chickasaw County listed as NW-1/4 of Section 17 Township 14S Range 1E 159.65 acres. This land includes the exit off of present day Hwy 8 onto the Hollis Switch road and some of the land south of that intersection on Hwy 8, Calhoun County. I feel that this was Millington's mother.

Here are the census records for 1840 Chickasaw County, Mississippi

Millington was enumerated on the 1841 and 1845 Mississippi censuses for Chickasaw County. In 1850 he was listed on the West District of Chickasaw County, Mississippi with his wife, Nancy, and his younger children listed as follows: Mary A. born 1836 in Tennessee; James H. born 1838 in Mississippi; Eliza born 1842 in Tennessee; and Sarah M. born 1843 in Mississippi.

By 1860 Millington and Nancy were living in Arkansas County, Arkansas next door to their daughter 25 Nancy J. Easley Stokes and her husband William Stokes.

Below is the possible outline for Millington Easley and Nancy Plant. Children:
21 Hardy H. Easley born 1820 in Alabama
22 Amelia Easley born 1824 in Alabama; married Whitfield Hitt who was born 1819 in South Carolina and by 1850 (census) had three children. Also living with them in 1850 is a Nancy Easley listed as 67 years of age. I feel that this Nancy Easley was the wife of John Easley of Lawrence County, Alabama and Amelia's grandmother. This Nancy then would also have been the mother of Millington Easley.
221 Francis M. Hitt born about 1841
222 James W. Hitt born about 1844. There is a James W. Hitt listed on the 1900 Webster County census who is married to Alice. In 1900 they had been married for fifteen years and had no children.
223 Nancy Hitt born about 1848
23 John Mayberry Easley born December 25, 1830 in Tennessee; died February 26, 1893 in Calhoun Co, MS; buried Old Mt. Hermon Cemetery; married November 16, 1850 in Chickasaw Co, MS to Mary Ann Francis Watkins.
24 Elizabeth "Betsy" Easley born September 28, 1831 in Tennessee; died in the 1920s in her 93rd year; married first Hardin Riddle who was born 1823; married second on January 31, 1861 to John Ellis who was born June 17, 1833 and died October 24, 1862. According to the 1900 census she was the mother of eight children none of whom were living. Over the years Betsy had several nieces who lived with her who include 252 Sarah Frances "Frankie" Stokes, 268 Cora T. Rodgers, and 291 Fannie Osbrooks/Alsobrooks. Betsy's children include the following:
241 Nancy J. Riddle born 1845 in Arkansas
242 Samuel L. "Sammie" Riddle born October 22, 1848 in Mississippi; died December 8, 1866
243 Milton Riddle born March 19, 1854; married December 14, 1879 to Emma Jane Starnes who was born December 27, 1859; died August 18, 1908 and buried at Duncan Hill Cemetery, Calhoun County, Mississippi.
244 William S. Riddle born February 20, 1856; died August 7, 1866
245 R.G. Riddle died June 7, 1876
246 Eliza Elizabeth Ellis born November 13, 1861; died August 13, 1864
25 Nancy J. Easley born 1833 in Tennessee; was living with the Henry McGarity family in 1850 Chickasaw County, Mississippi. It had been summized that Nancy J. Easley married Henry's son James Madison McGarity. This has been proven false via a Bible record in the possession of the descendants of James Madison McGarity which states that Nancy was nee Nancy Elm Tate McDonald, not Easley. I now feel Nancy married William Stokes who was born 1833 in South Carolina. They can be found on the 1860 Arkansas County, Arkansas census living next door to her father and mother, Millington and Nancy Plant Easley, and two of their other children, James H. and Eliza. The children of Nancy J. Easley and William Stokes include:
251 James M. Stokes born 1854 in Mississippi
252 Sarah Frances "Frankie" Stokes born 1856 in Mississippi.
253 John H. Stokes born 1858 in Arkansas
254 Eliza Ann Stokes born 1860 in Arkansas
26 Mary A. Easley born 1836 in Tennessee (1850 Census); died September 25, 1887; married Seth W. Rodgers who was born 1835 in Georgia and died October 3, 1875. They were the parents of these children:
261 James M. Rodgers born November 12, 1858
262 George W. Rodgers born December 9, 1861
263 Francis Jane Rodgers born March 26, 1865; married Alson V. Swanson who was born about 1862 the son of Moses and Narcissa A. Swanson.
264 Seth W. Rodgers born May 8, 1866; married Eliza Worley who was born March 1876 in Arkansas.
265 Martha F. "Mattie" Rodgers born June 9, 1867
266 John H. Rodgers born June 9, 1869; died June 1941; never married
267 Samuel Rodgers possible twin to John H. since he was listed on the 1870 census as the same age.
268 Cora T. Rodgers born January 1, 1874/1876; married Jim Boling
27 James H. Easley born about 1839 (from the 1860 Arkansas census) in Mississippi; married Mary --- and by the 1870 census had the following children:
271 Minnie Easley born about 1867
272 John Easley born about 1869
28 Eliza Easley born September 5, 1842 in Tennessee
29 Sarah M. Easley born 1843; married Lemuel Alsobrooks
291 Fannie Octavia Alsobrooks; married William Edgar Young

23 John Mayberry Easley (Millington) born December 25, 1830 in TN; died February 26, 1893 in Calhoun Co, MS; buried Old Mt. Hermon Cemetery; married November 16, 1850 in Chickasaw Co, MS to Mary Ann Francis Watkins who was born November 1, 1834 in Greene Co, AL the daughter of John and Sarah McGarity Watkins; died May 12, 1923 and is buried at Old Mt. Hermon Cemetery. John Mayberry Easley was a private Company G 42nd Mississippi Infantry. John was in Chickasaw County, MS by 1840. He was a small man and would sit in a chair with his feet on a box and he wore chin whiskers. His Civil War record indicates also that he was a small man of five feet, five inches tall, fair, complexion, light hair and gray eyes. John was working on a farm in 1850 in Chickasaw County, MS and living with the Jefferson Davis family. His wife Mary Ann was only sixteen when they married. On January 2, 1855 he bought land from John A. Watkins recorded as follows: SE¼ of Sect ¼ S 5 T14 R1E District Land offered for sale at Pontotoc - Warranty Deed - Acknowledged January 2, 1855 - Consideration $1.00 - filed for record. Their old homeplace is located near the New Liberty Community Center. According to copies of his military records, he joined Captain J.M. Gaston's Company, 42nd Regiment Mississippi Volunteers, which subsequently became "Infantry" on May 13, 1862 at Benela, MS for three years of the war. His name does appear on the company muster roll, and he was present from time of enlistment until July 1, 1863. He was lost in action near Gettysburg July 1, 1863. On a record dated "Near Petersburg Virginia, March 25, 1865", it stated that he was confined at Fort Delaware. A record of Prisoners of War at Fort McHenry, Maryland states that he was confined July 4, 1863 by General Schenck and sent to Fort Delaware. He signed an Oath of Allegiance to the United States of American on June 11, 1865 and was released from prison. Find here a list of his children:
